A week-long curatorial school featuring some of the world's top art curtors was opened earlier today at the University of Malta's Valletta campus.

The school targets practitioners and students of fine arts, art education, arts administration, curation and history of art.

It is directed by Raphael Vella and organised by the Valletta 2018 Foundation in collaboration with the University, the EU-Japan Fest Committee and the committee of Leeuwarden 2018, the other European city designated European capital of culture in 2018.

This year's theme - 'Curating the New' - focuses on how curators of contemporary art commission new work from artists and curators, what the ‘new’ means to these, the use of new media, and emerging artists and locally engaged projects.

Top curators participating in this year’s edition of the Curatorial School include Renate Buschmann, Sebastian Cichocki, Michaela Crimmin, Yuko Hasegawa, Nadim Samman, Fumihiko Sumitomo, Suzanne Wallinga and Antje Weitzel.
