The US Senate Intelligence Committee has released video prepared by the CIA showing victims of a suspected chemical weapons attack in Syria.

Reuters could not independently verify the video, which was compiled by the CIA's "open source center."

Senator Dianne Feinstein, the head of the Senate Intelligence Committee said she asked the CIA to prepare a DVD for lawmakers as evidence that the Syrian government used chemical weapons against its own people.

The videos were shown to the committee on Thursday.

The DVD is another tool that could be used to persuade lawmakers to give President Barack Obama congressional approval to carry out a limited military strike against Syria.

A U.S. official who spoke on the condition of anonymity said it contained YouTube videos of some of the people who either died or were being treated as a result of a chemical weapons attack on August 21st.
