Crew members of the American Navy destroyer USS Barry dedicated some of their free time to lending a hand with a number of community projects in a gesture of appreciation for the hospitality they received in Malta last week.

The US Embassy said the volunteers were split up into different teams. One group went to the Richmond Foundation to paint and provide general maintenance; another group went to the Malta Aviation Museum; a third group went to the Malta Sea Cadets headquarters; and a fourth group went to Mistra Bay to clean the beach and enjoy the beautiful view. The beach clean-up at Mistra Bay was conducted in collaboration with the Mellieħa Local Council.

During their brief stay the American sailors also engaged in training exercises with members of the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM), particularly with the personnel of the Air Wing and Maritime Squadron.
