Zurrieq Football Club has been ordered to pay over €98,000 to its former president after a court ruled that this sum had been loaned to the club and not repaid.

Former president Joseph Farrugia had filed his writ against the club in the First Hall of the Civil Court. He told the court that while he had occupied this post he had lent the club Lm43,100. This loan was shown in the club's balance sheet.

However the Club had not repaid this loan.

The court found in favour of Mr Farrugia and said that his version of the facts was credible and was supported by the club's own balance sheet. But the court deducted the sum of Lm1,000 from the amount it awarded Mr Farrugia on the basis that this sum was owed by Mr Farrugia to pay for his son's release from the club in order to play with Hamrun FC.

Zurrieq FC was ordered to pay Mr Farrugia €98,066.62 (equivalent to Lm42,100).
