The National Blood Transfusion Service has made an urgent call for blood donations saying the current situation is critical and surgical operations may soon have to be stopped.

“Furthermore, should there be a major accident, we do not have enough blood supplies to cover the eventuality” the service said.

It urged all healthy persons to call at the blood transfusion centre (opposite St Luke’s Hospital) to donate blood. All donors should take their ID card.

The centre is open every day between 8 a.m and 6 p.m. seven days a week.
