More than 100 people turned up at the National Blood Transfusion Service to donate Blood today, following an appeal for urgent donations this morning.
The NBTS appealed for urgent blood donations because of a shortage caused by a spate of accidents in the past few days. The situation, it said, was 'very worrying'
It urged people who are in good health to call at the bank in Guardamangia, near St Luke's Hospital. The bank remains open up to 6 p.m. but may stay open longer if necessary. Donors will need to present their ID card.
The bank said this evening it hoped that the same amount of donors will turn up to donate blood tomorrow as the need for blood was still surprisingly high.
