Two men who stepped out of a car to shoot a Black Winged Stilt in Xemxija Bay yesterday, have been arrested.

The hunters' federation said in a statement this afternoon that the police were helped apprehend the men by a hunter.

The incident happened at about 5pm. The Black Winged Stilt is a protected species.

The FKNK congratulated the police for apprehending the men. It said that its members were heeding its recent appeal to report any illegal activity they may witness to the police, as happened in this case.

On Tuesday, a 24-year-old man was given a three months jail term suspended for a year and fined €1,000 after he admitted to shooting and killing  a Black-winged Stilt in Qajjenza. Another man was accused of assisting him.
