(Adds PL statement)
Shadow ministers Therese Comodini Cachia and Marthese Portelli have written to all trade unions representing Enemalta workers requesting an urgent meeting.
The shadow ministers said that Enemalta employees and their families were going through major uncertainty as their take home pay was likely to go down. Their jobs were also being changed and not all workers were being given the same opportunities.
They said that the dignity of all workers, Enemalta's, was a priority for the Opposition which was to continue to insist that workers enjoyed good conditions and the pay they deserved.
In a reaction, the Labour Party said that Enemalta had been allowed to go bankrupt by a Nationalist government to the detriment of the workers.
A Labour government had again placed Enemalta on its feet with an investment of more than €800 million through a foreign direct investment of €320 million.
This investment saved Enemalta and the economy while safeguarding the workers' jobs.
In spite of the PN's scaremongering campaign, the Enemalta workers jobs were guaranteed and their wages and conditions would be respected in line with the collective agreement.
Workers would also be given the right of first refusal for new opportunities to be created within the company, the PL said.
