The Nationalist Party was justified in its complaints about coverage on the power station in the news bulletin on August 20, the Broadcasting Authority has concluded

The PN said in a statement the Broadcasting Authority had decided the PBS was imbalanced in a news item on the new power station when it opted to take the comments of Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi on the delays in the building of the power station and in spite of the political controversy surrounding the matter, it did not seek the Opposition’s reaction.

This was in spite of describing the issue as a controversial one in the same bulletin.

In its decision (see pdf link below) the Broadcasting Authority said it appreciated the efforts that were made by PBS to be impartial and balanced but called for more attention so that instances such as those the PN had complained about would be avoided.

The PN said this was not the first time in this legislature that PBS was found guilty of imbalance against the PN.

It appealed to the head of news to stop this campaign which gave the government a voice while boycotting the Opposition. PBS, it said, should not be a partisan tool for the government but a station which was balanced.
