Owing to the precarious financial situation inherited from the previous administration, and its resultant budgetary constraints, WasteServ has no funds to allocate for the second and third phases of the construction of paths on Magħtab hill.

Environment Minister Leo Brincat said this in reply to a parliamentary question by opposition MP Claudette Buttigieg.

In a statement this evening, WasteServ said that while a verbal agreement regarding works on some Magħtab roads was made one year ago between WasteServ and the Naxxar council, there was no formal documented agreement.

The first phase of works has been completed and the second phase had been estimated to cost €450,000. No date was agreed upon as to when the second phase would start, let alone be completed.

"It is not excluded that if and when WasteServ will have the necessary funds, the pending works in Magħtab roads will be carried out, despite there being no formal commitment in this regard," it said.
