Floriana Mayor Nigel Holland complained today that the new Prospettiva installation at the bottom of Glormu Cassar Road was not subjected to the full Mepa development permit procedures.

He said he could not understand how minor projects required a full development permit, whereas for this big installation on a prominent site, only notification to Mepa was made.

Furthermore, Floriana Council was not informed or consulted about it by the V-18 Foundation.

Mr Holland said that before building new monuments it would be better for V-18 and the other authorities to devote some of their funds for the preservation of existing monuments and sites.

V-18 REACTION

In a reaction, the V-18 Foundation said  the development of the installation respected all necessary procedures as set by Mepa, the Superintendence for Cultural Heritage and Transport Malta.

It said Mr Holland's comments suggested that he chose to ignore the contribution that his own locality has played in supporting the Valletta 2018 preparations including those taking place over the past weekend when the installation was inaugurated, namely the illumination of major areas in Floriana during Notte Bianca, the lighting up of Porte de Bombes and the public access provided to it.
