(Adds St Vincent de Paul administration's reply)

The nurses’ union will be calling a meeting for its officials to decide what steps should be taken to safeguard the interests of its members at St Vincent de Paul Hospital, who were being discriminated against.

It said in a statement that while certain non-members who were caught breaking disciplinary regulations in a serious and aggravated manner were not disciplined or warned, the hospital's administration took drastic action against its members for minor infringements.

In a reply the administration of the hospital said it was committed to take all opportune measures for the interests of the elderly to be safeguarded when necessary.

Such measures were taken within the parameters of public sector disciplinary regulations.

It would be irresponsible if someone hid cases of breach of regulations so the administration would continue to take all opportune action against abusers.
