Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi will this evening address a Labour Party activity in Paola, which will conclude the electoral campaign for the local council elections.

He confirmed his participation during a joint news conference with Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this afternoon

Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi said this morning that prime minister Matteo Renzi, who arrived in Malta this afternoon for talks with the prime minister and the inauguration of the interconnector between Sicily and Malta, was to be invited to address the gathering.

Dr Azzopardi said the man who had originally wanted to cancel Saturday’s election would now be inviting Mr Renzi to address the people in Paola.

“We will be there to remind him who had worked against funds from the European Union,” he said.
