Labour MP Godfrey Farrugia this evening successfully underwent surgery in a London hospital for aggressive prostate cancer.

His partner, Labour MP Marlene Farrugia said that according to his doctors, the operation was extensive but all went very well.

Dr Farrugia will probably be discharged on Thursday but needs three weeks of recovery.

The former health minister was admitted into the operating theatre at about 4.14pm. and the operation ended shortly before 8pm.

Earlier this month Dr Farrugia said this would be a 'delicate and major operation' but he was confident and had peace of mind.
