Mario Borg, 38 of Bugibba, was jailed for 21 years and fined 70,000 euros this afternoon after jurors found him guilty of importing and conspiring to import drugs, as well as possession of drugs.

The trial opened on Monday and centred round the evidence of two Turkish women who twice carried the drugs to Malta in capsules.

The trial was presided by Mr Justice Joseph Galea Debono.
