The Medical Association of Malta has suspended industrial actions which included a one-hour strike on Tuesday following talks with the health authorities today during which progress was registered.

The talks were over pending grievances with the Health Ministry.

The government said in a statement talks continued today between the Health Deparment, the Public Administration Collective Bargaining Unit and MAM and the goodwill shown by all sides led to MAM suspending its actions.

Parliamentary Secretary Chris Fearne and MAM president Martin Balzan expressed satisfaction that talks led to current difficulties being resolved in the spirit of social dialogue.

Earlier today, Health Parliamentary Secretary Chris Fearne tweeted today “Sunday talks between Health Secretariat and MAM - confident that consultation works better than confrontation”.

MAM said yesterday it was determined to proceed with its planned strike on Tuesday but was keeping all negotiating options open.

It warned that, should there be no progress, it would be forced to consider escalating its actions.
