A body has been recovered from a hot air balloon that hit a power line, caught fire and crashed in the US, police said.

Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said searchers are continuing to look for two other occupants of the balloon, which went down on Friday night in Doswell.

She said the search has moved from a rescue to a recovery operation because of the time elapsed since the crash.

Witnesses said they saw the balloon in flames and heard screams for help.

Ms Geller said two occupants either fell or jumped from the balloon.
