Updated 2.45pm - A 29-year old man was charged in court today with stealing fuel from various trucks last night.

Ryan Camenzuli, of Cospicua, pleaded not guilty to stealing less than €250 worth of fuel to the detriment of  Farenheit Ltd in Hal Far at about 11.20pm. He was also charged with damaging the container truckss, breaching the conditions of a previous release and relapsing.

Magistrate Carol Peralta told Mr Camenzuli that he had been informed, by his lawyer that he was putting his life in order. But, the magistrate told him, a guilty plea would mean an effective two-year jail term.

For this reason Mr Camenzuli did not admit to the charges and will allow his lawyer to better examine the case.

Mr Camenzuli  was remanded in police custody.

Police Inspector Robert Vella.

Earlier, the police said the man was spotted by officers of the Rapid Intervention Unit who became suspicious when they saw him loitering around several trucks.

A search of the suspect's van yielded several plastic containers. A range of tools, including a pump, were also found nearby.
