At least 30 chickens and two dogs were killed in a hay fire at a Naxxar farmhouse yesterday evening.

CPD officers battled the fire for four hours.

The police said the 57-year-old owner of the farmhouse, had gone out and was informed there was a fire at his house by the owner of a nearby field.

A spokesman for the Civil Protection Department said a room full of haystacks at a farm caught fire at around 9pm and besides battling the fire the officers had to all hay to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished.

At least five fire engines from five CPD units were on site.
