The Little Mermaid sculpture on her rock being hoisted from its place in the waterline at Langelinie in Copenhagen, yesterday, to be transported to the World Expo 2010 exhibition in Shanghai. The iconic statue, inspired by a character created by Hans Christian Andersen in an 1837 fairytale, was a gift to Copenhagen, donated by brewer Carl Jacobsen and executed by sculptor Edvard Eriksen. The statue was set permanently at Langelinie on August 23, 1913 and is one of Denmark's biggest tourist attractions.
