A number of swimming floats with canopies intended for babies have been withdrawn from the market after they were found to be unsafe, the Market Surveillance Directorate said.

It said these were found to pose a serious risk of drowning due to having a flat base, implying a greater degree of instability and an increased chance of toppling over; and by having a large surface area to volume ratio, increasing the chance of the float together with the child being carried away by wind currents.

Consumers who bought these products should immediately refrain from using them and return them to the outlet from which they were purchased.
