A Nigerian woman who allegedly caused a commotion at the airport when she refused to allow security officers search her belongings upon her arrival in Malta was today remanded in custody.

Onyeakpa Blessing, 28, who resides in Torino, Italy, appeared before Doreen Clarke charged with disturbing the public peace, swearing in public and obstructing a public officer in the performance of his duties.

The court heard how she allegedly refused to allow officials at Malta International Airport to search her belongings for dangerous items upon her arrival in Malta.

A disturbance ensued and Ms Blessing allegedly hurled an unidentified hard object at the official, missing him by inches.

As she broke down in tears in the courtroom, saying she was sick and just wanted to go home, the woman pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against her. No request was bail was made and she was remanded in custody.

Inspector Silvio Magro prosecuted while legal aid lawyer Anthony Stellini appeared for the woman.
