Students reading for an education degree at the University of Malta had to wait until today to receive results for exams they sat for in January, despite the deadline for submission of marks having been last month.

Affected students said that while they had submitted their work in January and the deadline for results submission was the end of March, until yesterday some 50 students were still awaiting their marks.

The assignment in question consisted of a written and a practical component.

“This happens every year. We are made to wait for weeks on end, and deadlines are never met,” an irked student said.

Affected students received the results this morning.

Earlier this month, this newspaper asked for information on deadlines. A university spokeswoman confirmed that according to the Collective Agreement for Academic Staff, lecturers should ensure that all assessment and examination results for study units held during the first semester were submitted to the chairman of the Board of Examiners by the end of the third week of March.

The Board of Examiners then meets to confirm the results and submit the finalised results to the Registrar by no later than the end of the month.

This was also not the case with the rest of the exam results, the annoyed student went on, adding that students in the education course had received most of their results just last week.

Once the deadline for submission had passed, students contacted the faculty, yet this was in vain, as they were repeatedly told the marks would be issued “soon”.

The issue of late submission of results has for years been reported at the university, with students regularly complaining about missed deadlines.
