Monaco and Lazio have emerged as potential opponents for Manchester United when the Champions League play-off round draw is made at UEFA’s Nyon headquarters today at noon.

United could also be handed a gruelling long-haul trip to take on CSKA Moscow, with Belgian outfit Club Brugge and Austrian side Rapid Vienna, who knocked out Ajax, rounding the list of possible opponents.

Wednesday’s second-leg ties in the non-champions route saw Shakhtar Donetsk, CSKA and Brugge seal the final three places in the final qualifying round.

United, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Shakhtar and Sporting Lisbon are the five seeded teams in the draw. The two-legged ties will be played on August 18/19 and 25/26. The winners will progress to the group stage.

Louis van Gaal’s side will be in pot 2 of the group stage draw if they go through.

Celtic will be one of the five seeded teams in the champions half of the draw, alongside FC Basel, APOEL, BATE and Dinamo Zagreb.
