The UHM and the Lotto Receivers' Union have put lotto receivers on alert for industrial action after complaining that Maltco is not following an order by the Ministry of Finance to increase the prize fund when winnings are low.

The unions in a joint statement said they had an informal meeting with the company last week when company officials said they disagreed with the order by the parliamentary secretary at the MInistry of Finance.

The unions said that whereas the company is ready to reduce the prize fund when winnings exceeded the quota as calculated on the basis of sales, it is not prepared to raise the fund when winnings are low. They said that the quota isno longer fixed at Lm500,000 but is now calculated as being 70 per cent of sales in a week and can thus be Lm210,000.

The unions are insisting that the parliamentary secretary's order has to be followed, and they are calling on the Gaming Authority to ensure that this happens.
