The teachers’ union has welcomed the court’s decision to clear an assistant headmaster of child abuse after ruling that the minor’s testimony could not be believed.

MUT said it hoped the man would not be dragged into further turmoil and that justice was done through action against those responsible for all the “reckless allegations” made against him.

Only in this way can it be ensured that frivolous allegations were not repeated, it said. The union also called on the courts to speed up similar cases, especially in Gozo, where one case has been dragging on for more than four years.
