The statement in June and Roy Jarvis’s letter (Flights And Bus Fares, November 12), “maybe if Easyjet and other cheap airlines had not been given so much schedule freedom, Air Malta would have fared better” is ridiculous. Air Malta has always had the prime times for its flights and whatever other airlines were flying here were left the dregs. Thank goodness for Easyjet and low-cost airlines – if not for them, a great many Maltese and others wouldn’t have stood a chance of travelling abroad. I have to add that, having lived here for 19 years, I travel with Air Malta very often simply because their flight times suit me best, definitely not because their prices are better.

I have a Maltese friend who is travelling with his family to Disneyland Paris on November 19. Everything is booked. Now he has been told his flight has been changed to either the day before or day after – which is impossible because accommodation has been booked – or they have to go via Milan on the outward leg and Rome on the way back, with the waiting time between flights of between two and five hours. To go to France via Italy seems a bit out of the way, does it not?

Air Malta in trouble? They certainly aren’t helping themselves, and this is dreadful customer relations.

One is warned to expect changes like this with low-cost airlines but somehow is very disappointed when a national airline is involved. As a gesture of goodwill, something small in the way of compensation would be a nice thought, but I doubt it will happen.
