An issue between Malta and Unesco which could have threatened Valletta’s status as a world heritage site has been resolved, Parliamentary Secretary for Culture Jose’ Herrera said this afternoon.

The world organisation had raised concerns over City Gate, the building of the Master Gunner’s Quarters and the saluting battery.

In most cases, Dr Herrera said, the issues stemmed from the Maltese government's failure to submit required documentation on time, something which had now been done.

Unnesco had been planning to send a mission to Malta to further investigate the City Gate project, but documentation sent by the Maltese government  settled the issue, Dr Herrera said.

Concerns about the location of the Valletta market were also addressed, with Unesco agreeing that the location and the individual stalls were reversible and would cause no damage to Valletta as a world heritage site.
