Just over 7,000 people were registering for work in March, an increase of 15 per cent over the same month a year before.

Over a one-year period, unemployment increased across all age groups with the biggest rise registered among those aged under-25.

Unemployment in Gozo stood at 782, an increase of seven per cent over the previous year.

However, given an insignificant drop of 18 people, unemployment in March remained stable when compared to the previous month. From 7,101 people who were registering for work with the Employment and Training Corporation in February, the number dropped to 7,083 in March. When comparing the monthly data, unemployment among those aged under-30 increased in March while significant drops were registered among those over 30.

The information was released by the National Statistics Office yesterday.
