The number of persons registered as unemployed rose by 541 to 7,639 last month compared to the corresponding month last year.
 
The NSO said that according to data provided by the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC), there was an increase of 698 persons (10.8 per cent) registering under Part 1 and a drop of 157 persons (24.3 per cent) registering under Part 2 of the unemployment register.

Registered unemployment in Malta rose by 7.5 per cent to 6,866 while that in Gozo went up by 9 per cent to 773.

The number of registrants below the age of 25 stood at 1,272, down by 3.6 per cent when compared to November 2012. On the other hand, the number
of registrants aged 45 and over went up by 10.2 per cent to 3,144 when compared to 2012 levels.

An increase of 570 was recorded in registrants whose duration of unemployment exceeded one year. On the other hand, persons who had been registering for work for less than 21 weeks increased by 23.Those with a disability seeking work numbered 533 during the month under review, of whom 448 were men.

The largest share of unemployed men were seeking occupations in services, crafts and related jobs, whereas women mostly sought technical and associated professional jobs. The least occupational category sought by both men and women was agriculture and fishing.
