Unemployment in October stood at 5.6% according to Eurostat figures, the lowest since the European statistics agency started including Malta in its data in the year 2000.

The rate in Malta was the third lowest in the whole of the EU, the government observed.

It said the favourable result reflected a dynamic economy, and the administration was committed to further train the workforce to take up all opportunities available in Malta.

The government also pointed out that before the elections, the unemployment rate was 6.9%, or 13,500 persons.

The government also noted that the rate of youth unemployment has dropped to 10.4% from 13.5.
