The unemployment rate in Malta last October continued to fall for the 12th month in succession, registering 6.2 per cent, according to Eurostat.

The rate last October was almost one percentage point lower than the EU average at seven per cent.

The average unemployment rate in the euro zone was 7.2 per cent. In October 2006, Malta had an unemployment rate of seven per cent.

Last October, the lowest unemployment figures were registered in Denmark (2.9 per cent) and the Netherlands (3.1 per cent).

The highest were in Slovakia (11.2 per cent) and Poland (8.8 per cent).
