The number of registered unemployed in December stood at 6,811 - 3.4 per cent more than in December 2011.

The National Statistics Office said that Employment and Training Corporation records also showed that the number of people out of work in December went down by 287, or four per cent, when compared to November.

In 2012, unemployment among men went up by 125, or 2.4 per cent and unemployment among women went up by 99, or 6.9 per cent.

Registrants aged under 20 decreased by 70, or 14.4 per cent.

The number of people who were out of work for more than one year went up by 308, or 13.5 per cent, while those registering for less than 21 weeks decreased by 124, or 4.3 per cent.
