The number of people registering for work last month stood at 4,760, compared to 6,501 in November last year.

The National Statistics Office said that according to data provided by the Employment and Training Corporation drops in registered unemployment were recorded among all age groups.

When compared to November last year, registrants for work decreased irrespective of how long they had been registering. The largest drop was recorded among persons who had been registering for over one year.

The number of persons with a disability who were registering for work also dropped by 68 to 381.

The largest share of males on the register sought occupations as crafts and related trade workers (17.8 per cent), whereas their female counterparts mostly sought occupations as clerical support workers (29.3 per cent).

The registered unemployment rate in June stood at three per cent of the labour supply (excluding part-time employment), and varied from 3.5 per cent among men to 2.1 per cent among women.

In a statement, the government said it was the fourth consecutive month that the number of those registering for work was below 5,000. The figure of 4,760 registered last month, was the lowest November rate since 1980.

The figures contrasted sharply with the previous administration when one additional person was registering for work every two days, the government said.

The government pointed out that 509 persons over 45 years of age previously registering for work were now in employment.

A total of 7,300 people were registering for work at the end of the Nationalist administration.
