The University is offering a BSc (Hons) degree in Occupational Therapy in October.

Occupational therapy is one of the major rehabilitation professions, providing an invaluable service to various settings of healthcare provision. Its aim is to enable patients to participate in all aspects of life, including work, school, and leisure time, and learn how to take care of themselves especially after having sustained an injury, disease or mental health problems.

Occupational therapists evaluate physical, psychological, social and environmental factors, as well as the skills needed to participate in everyday life, which might be preventing people from being independent.

They then provide treatment aimed to develop abilities and enhance quality of life. Occupational therapists adopt a client-centred approach and collaborate with individuals to empower them to achieve their full potential.

The four-year undergraduate degree includes practical and theoretical courses spanning the biomedical sciences, medicine, psychology, health promotion, research skills, occupational therapy theory and practice.

The course programme reflects the broad range of concerns the occupational therapy discipline covers and brings together a variety of interests including physical and medical rehabilitation, work with children in schools, community services, mental health and health promotion with individuals at risk.

Interested applicants may register for course programmes online through the University website, until July 23. For more information visit www.um.edu.mt/registrar/students/admissions/instructions_oct_2010.
