A 27-year-old Nigerian was this morning charged with trafficking cannabis after allegedly being caught red-handed during a police raid in Paceville yesterday.

Eight other persons including a number of Italians who were also arrested during this operation are expected to be arraigned in the coming days.

Eric Lawani, 27, who has been living in Malta for a year but has an Italian travelling document was also charged with committing a crime within 100 metres from a school. The man pleaded not guilty but was refused bail.

Inspector Nikolai Sant said the Nigerian was found exchanging the drugs for money by an undercover officer from the Drug Squad.

Magistrate Joe Mifsud presided over the case. Dr Mark Mifsud Cutajar was legal aid.
