A 27-year-old Nigerian was remanded in custody after he was caught trafficking can-nabis in Paceville by an undercover officer from the Drug Squad during an operation carried out last Sunday.

Eight other persons, including some Italians, were also arrested in the raid. They are expected to be arraigned in the coming days.

Eric Lawani, 27, who has been living in Malta for a year but has an Italian travel document, was also charged with committing a crime within 100 metres of a school.

The man, who was caught exchanging the drug for money, pleaded not guilty but was refused bail.

Inspector Nikolai Sant led the prosecution, while lawyer Mark Mifsud Cutajar acted as legal aid. The Nigerian was arraigned before Magistrate Joe Mifsud.
