A man from Burkina Faso was fined €3,750 on Sunday after Customs officials caught him with €15,000 in undeclared cash at Malta International Airport.

The man was due to catch a plane to Istanbul when he was identified for a routine cash control search by Customs officials. He claimed to be carrying €1,500 on him, but a search revealed ten times that amount.

Customs officials seized the undeclared cash and handed the man over to the police's Economic Crimes Unit. He was subsequently arraigned in court and fined on Sunday.
