We fully agree with Alan Meers (March 25). We are grandparents too, now living for 15 years in Malta and coming from Belgium.

We have seven grandchildren and they all come to Malta to spend quality time with us and enjoy the nice things Malta has to offer (sun, sea, beaches, friendly people...) For some of them Malta became their "second home".

However, we face the same problem as Mr Meers is describing. The children are willing to come over on their own. Their parents don't have the time to bring them over and to collect them. But to bring them over from Belgium every year is so expensive (if they come as an unaccompanied minor) that the only solution in the past was for me to fly over, several times, to give them the holiday they would have been looking forward to for a whole year.

What Air Malta is charging for the service provided is not in proportion to the assistance given. One could accept an adult's ticket price for an unaccompanied minor but charging double the price is far over the top (€230 extra while Brussels Airlines is asking for €30 one way. However, on the codeshare flight to Malta they have to follow Air Malta's rules.)

We are hoping Air Malta will take notice of these reactions and will change its policy because I am afraid customers will be looking for other solutions.
