UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has started a two-day official visit to Malta with talks at the Office of the Prime Minister.

He was given a formal welcome at Castille Place where he was greeted by Dr Gonzi and inspected an AFM Guard of Honour.

He is currently holding talks with Dr Gonzi and is then due to give a press conference before visiting the Upper Barrakka Gardens.

In the afternoon he will call on President George Abela and later receive Opposition Leader Joseph Muscat.

In the evening he will inaugurate a climate change monument at the University during a visit to the International Maritime Law Institute.

The Secretary General will tomorrow morning address a special sitting of Parliament and then be conferred with an honourary degree by the the University.
