FOI deputy president Adrian Bajada and director-general Edwin Calleja represented the FOI at the Ordinary General Assembly (OGA) of the Union of the Mediterranean Confederations of Enterprises (UMCE) of which the federation is a founding member. UMCE president Hassan Chami chaired the assembly, which was held in Tunis on April 25.

During the OGA, Hassan Chami, president of the Confederation Generale des Entreprises du Maroc (CGEM), and Jacques Jean Sarraf, president of the Association of Lebanese Industrialists (ALI), were unanimously confirmed as president and vice-president of UMCE for a further 12 months.

The OGA also nominated Monia Shkiri of the Tunisian Employers' Association for Industry Commerce and Handicrafts (UTICA) to the post of UMCE secretary-general. This nomination is an important step in the formation of this relatively new union.
