The union of Maltese singers, songwriters and composers (UKAM) is distancing itself from music producer Grace Borg, who took the organisers of Eurosong to court for not allowing foreign songwriters to participate in the annual contest leading up to the Eurovision song festival.

UKAM said it agreed with the court decision not to grant Ms Borg the right to stop next year's song contest and disassociated itself from her "claims and arguments".

Her request was to stop the short-listing of entries for the contest until the issue was decided but her claim was turned down last week, paving the way for the selection process to continue.

Mr Justice Joseph Micallef, sitting in the Civil Court, last week ruled that Ms Borg had no legal basis to request an injunction. People filing a request for an injunction had to prove they were interested parties and that their rights were being violated by what they were trying to stop, the court concluded.
