In a confusing and rapidly changing world, the British Prime Minister’s failed gamble on a snap election last June only served to increase her political mess. This mess, compounded by scandals that have rocked her government since the beginning of summer, has all but paralysed it during the brutally complex Brexit talks.

Theresa May needs to wake up now and show her leadership skills with European Union bullies. She should walk away now from the Brexit negotiations if the EU persist in their endeavour to demand more than the £20 billion already on the table.

She should show strength and discipline in her decisions to save both the United Kingdom and her premiership. If she continues to defy EU negotiator Michel Barnier, if she shows real steel by refusing to pay more, then her ratings will rocket.

May also needs to be continuously on alert as some of her own ministers are seriously plotting to topple her. She should be energetic and tough in the face of stubborn heads. Hardly a day goes by without new revelations of sleaze or ministers doing what they please.

Clearly, these are not easy times for May. Besides the various plotters who want to unseat her, she is also facing stiff battles in Parliament and the Brexit negotiations are at a crucial stage where she has to reach agreement with EU officials within two weeks on how much money Britain will pay to clear its commitments on leaving the bloc.

The uncertainty has also spooked business leaders from both sides of the English Channel. They too are demanding a speedy end to Brexit negotiations. However, if May gives in to the EU bosses and agrees to pay more than the £20 billion, her ratings will undoubtedly plummet and her political career ends.
