Police investigating Youtube footage of a "living statue" street performer being shoved to the ground have arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of assault.

The victim, dressed as The Predator from the cult science fiction movie series, was knocked towards a child in Birmingham city centre on Sunday.

A short film of the incident, believed to have been taken by a friend of the offender, was originally posted on a Facebook account and has since attracted tens of thousands of views on video-sharing sites.

Although the street performer and the child unwittingly caught up in the incident have yet to make a complaint to police, officers are treating the incident as an assault.

Inspector Stuart Bill, of West Midlands Police, said: "The street performer was shoved from behind and lunged forward on top of a young child who'd been staring up at him.

"Thankfully both the man and the little girl appear to have been unhurt though, as neither the man or the girl's parents have contacted police, we can't be 100% sure so I'd encourage them to contact us."

The arrested man, from Small Heath, Birmingham, surrendered himself to police this afternoon and has been bailed pending further inquiries.
