He said:

“I am delighted to be visiting Malta ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Malta in November, where heads from across the Commonwealth will come together to discuss key issues of importance to member states, and, crucially, to set the direction for the Commonwealth over the following years.

“As host, Malta will play an important and influential role as we look to build a Commonwealth which is relevant in the 21st century and delivers real benefits to its people by promoting values and democracy, increasing development and building trade and investment.

“The United Kingdom remains committed to strengthening our engagement with, and role within, the Commonwealth, helping it to realise its full potential. I believe a strong Commonwealth is important to future prosperity and the national interests of all member states, and can help promote our objectives of democratic values, good governance and prosperity,” he said.
