A gang of car thieves that shipped vehicles to a number of countries including Malta has been jailed for a total of 21 years and three months.

The gang shipped mostly stolen Land Rovers, making over £1 million between 2005 and 2010.

Northampton Crown Court jailed a woman and five men for 11 offences including conspiracy to steal, conspiracy to convert criminal property and concealing criminal property.

The investigation began in August 2010.

The court heard how the gang would target rural communities, often farmers and builders who owned Land Rovers.

The vehicles were then shipped whole or in parts.
