A group of 30 Form 3 students and three teachers from San Anton School, L-Imselliet, recently joined a larger group of Maltese students on an eight-day PGL adventure trip in Torbay area of South Devon, UK.

During the visit the students chose to undertake both physical activities and fieldwork studies. Some of the physical activities were very demanding and the youngsters had to muster enough courage and determination to finish the challenges, which included swinging on a giant swing, canoeing, zip wire, raft building, abseiling, wall-climbing and Jacob's ladder. Other activities included fencing, archery, dry slope skiing and map reading.

During the fieldwork study sessions at the nearby River Lemon, the students performed various tests on pollution and observed animal habitats. Another highlight of the week was the coastal walk around the Torbay area, where the group was able to trek along cliffs, pebbled beaches and through woodland.

Apart from being fun, the trip also served as proof that most challenges can be overcome with enough determination and teamwork.

The students resided at the PGL activity centre in Barton hall, Torquay.

Julia Formosa, a Grade 10 student commented: "PGL was an amazing experience that I will never forget. I learnt a lot from this trip, made loads of friends, and am missing every minute I spent at Barton hall."
