The UHM said today it was ‘very satisfied’ with the agreement on the revision of the utility tariffs reached with the government, saying it had been a protagonist in the process.

The union said that in the limited time allowed within the meetings of the MCESD, it had submitted proposals which led the government to the first changes while the MCESD process was still open, and then had also served as the basis for the common positions subsequently adopted by the unions.

The union recalled that it had written to the government insisting that the first 1,500 units of electricity consumed by each person (2,000 in the case of single person households) should have a lower tariff.

As an alternative to achieve the same result, the UHM had later proposed that the eco-reduction for the first 1,000 units of electricity per person should rise from 20 percent to 25 percent and on the second block of 750 units from 10 percent to 15 percent.

The UHM said it would continue to insist at the MCESD that any future revisions of the tariffs should be fair and should not impose an undue burden on the workers, pensioners and their families.
