The Union Haddiema Maghqudin yesterday warned it would step up industrial action in the health sector as from tomorrow.

The union said that no officials from the Finance Ministry turned up for a reconciliation meeting last Friday. The union saw this as another attempt at delaying the implementation of the collective agreement.

Nursing aides, care workers, assistant care workers, health assistants and dentists at Mater Dei Hospital took action last Friday following claims by the union that the government had failed to meet its collective agreement commitments. Applications for promotions in the respective grades had been issued late and did not observe the collective agreement. As a result, workers lost out on allowances, the UHM said.

The collective agreement was still not being observed even though the matter had been taken to conciliation in November, which decided in favour of the union.
