The UHM has directed Customs officers not to inspect parcels at the Maltapost parcel post office as from Monday.

It said in a statement today that the directive followed its longstanding complaints over health and safety shortcomings.

The union said its directive would mean that parcels which need to be inspected by Customs cannot be distributed. Such parcels would normally have been delivered from outside the EU.

The union regretted the inconvenience which this directive could cause Maltapost clients, but said it could no longer tolerate a situation where health and safety issues were pending for months.
